BEFORE

The Municipal Museum in Zory was established in December 2000 on the initiative of the authorities of city Zory, individuals gathered around the Society of Friends of the City Zory and then director of the Municipal Culture Centre Lucjan Buchalik. Until 2013, it housed in rented premises of the Municipal Culture Centre.

The area of  the museum was 476 m2, including the exhibition area accounted for approx. 250 m2. The institution employs eight people, in the first year of operation it was visited by 4678 visitors.

NOW

In the 2014 Museum was moved to the new headquarters at Muzealna 1/2 in Żory. At his disposal were rooms in the restored villa Hering and in the new part of exhibition and storage.

Museum has a total area of 1100 m2, including the exhibition area falls 497 m2. To disposition of the museum  was put also a modern conference room for 80 people. Museum employs 21 workers. In the first year of the new headquarters, institution was visited by over 25 thousand people.

 

 

ORGANIZATION

Fifteen-year period of activity was the time of the later phases of the Integrated Development Plan, which was awarded in various competitions.

Integrated Development Plan of the City Museum in its basic assumptions was based on the creation of the offer:

an open, unified, based on reliable scientific workshop, implemented primarily through cultural and educational projects.

Local Government Management Leader

The award in the "Local Government Management Leader 2007" for its innovative approach to managing cultural institution in the framework of the Integrated Development Plan on the basis of projects covering the entire spectrum of interdisciplinary activities.

Public-private partnership

Special prize in the "Good PPP Practices" for the investment project "Yatenga - Meeting of Cultures of the World" for the unique approach to the idea of public-private partnership from  part of museum institution.

Sybilla 2013

Distinction in the competition for the most important Museum Event of the Year for the project "Project of common public-private interest - Municipal Museum in Żory." The project of headquarters construction of the museum was awarded for innovative solutions on Polish soil, combining business sphere from the public sphere in order to achieve both mutual benefits and policy Business Partnership Program for the needs of the local community.

 

 

COLLECTIONS / WAREHOUSE

The museum collects objects from the history of the city Zory and the history and culture of the region, as well as non-European cultures (especially in Africa) in a thoughtful way, in order to build a representative collection of the Museum highlighting the nature and distinguish it from others.

 

BEFORE

In the first year of the museum it had 616 exhibits, including 442 objects in the inventory of the Department of History and Culture of the Region and the 174 objects in the inventory of the Department of Non-European Cultures.

Collections were stored in rented rooms, which do not meet the requirements of conservation

NOW

At the end of 2014 the museum has 4 559 exhibits, including 2,004 objects in the inventory of the Department of History and Culture of the Region and 2 555 objects in the inventory of the Department of Non-European Cultures.

Collections are stored in modern storage facilities tailored to the requirements and nature of the collections and providing them full security.

 

 

EXHIBITIONS

Museum operates an exhibition based on own collection  and lent.

The exhibition is also a determinant of educational projects.

Collections are presented in the context of permanent and temporary exhibitions and as part of a traveling exhibition centers in other museums in the country.

By 2015, the Museum offers the public three permanent exhibitions: "In African villages," "History of the City" and "The Silesian Chamber". At the beginning of 2016 Museum opening the new exhibition “The Polish way of  learning the world”

By 2015, the Museum has organized 113 temporary exhibitions, which attracted over 29 000 visitors.

 

 

RESEARCH EXPEDITIONS

The Museum conducts regular research activities based on our own research fiel, mainly in West Africa. The immediate effect of the research are new exhibits, expansion of science information and the articles and scientific publications of employees.

By 2015, the museum has organized 16 expeditions and scientific research.

 

Expedition "Atacora-Lurum 2001"

The first museum expedition. The study area included the country Lurum inhabited by people Kurumba located in the north of Burkina Faso, on the route Djibo-Ouahiguya, and Dogon Country, located in the south-eastern part of the Republic of Mali.

The expedition was attended by:

• mgr Jacek Łapott (National Museum in Szczecin).

Expedition "Ambasira 2005"

Studies have been conducted in Cameroon and Chad.

Expedition "Ossendowski 2013"

The aim of the expedition was to acquire exhibits for the exhibition "Polish learning about the world" from the areas of the Republic of Guinea and the southern part of the Republic of Mali. Purchased 190 objects

The expedition was attended by:

• Dr. Lucjan Buchalik (Municipal Museum in Zory)

• Tomasz Górecki, MA (Municipal Museum in Zory).

 

 

EDUCATION

development Education

Since the beginning the Museum carried out projects in the field of development education.

Educational activities are carried out on the basis of the "Theory of One Project", which aims to:

• the nature of culture knowledge and educational projects,

• presenting the widest possible perspective of cultural differences,

• interdisciplinarity,

• taking cultural dialogue,

• multi-stage and long-time projects,

• openness offer diverse in terms of the content and tailored to the age of the recipient,

• emphasis on educational work, constituting an essential element of the project.

By 2015, the museum has implemented 15 cultural and educational projects.

Innovation projects has won several awards. Prizes can include award "Sybilla" awards Marshal of the Silesian province and award European Language Label

 

Regional Education

Since 2010 in the context of museum education activities are carried out Regional Education Centre. The main goal of CER is to educate regional competence, skills of analysis and on the choice of content related to the culture of the region available for pre-school children and youth, as well as equal opportunities for students to gain knowledge about the place of residence and region.

Regional Education Centre implements the project "Live lessons about region" conducted in accordance with the program copyright, "I am the heir and creator of cultural heritage."

Annually, Museum preparing educational offer consisting of  average 23 subjects which benefited more than 126 thousand recipients.

 

 

PUBLICATIONS

The Museum carries out a consistent editorial policy, which implies a balance between scientific popular and educational publishers. The tasks are executed with attention to both the scientific and editorial level.

Some of the publications have been awarded by the Marshal of the Silesian province.

 

By 2015, the museum issued 17 books, 8 museum notebooks and published the 15th edition of the "Calendar Żory" with a supplement.
