Description: Leather Tuareg container for milk, butter or water. Richly decorated with thongs, some of them are decorated with geometric patterns.
Leather containers were of great importance for the Tuaregs, who were forced to transport their belongings frequently and store various products. Water was transported in abaior made of goatskin, 20-25 liters, from which the skin had not been removed.
In other sacks, tamhit made of sheep or goat skin, sugar, tea and grain were stored and transported. Goatskins were used to make tausoufra and adaboun bags, in which milk, cheese and sometimes water were stored. Butter was made in special containers of tanourat and buttermilk was stored. When the containers grew old, they were used to ferment the milk.
