Description: Leather double pillow, intended for a donkey or a tent.

Double pillow from Tuareg. Decorated with geometric, multi-colored ornaments. The edges of the pillow are decorated with fringes made of leather straps. Item made in the mid-twentieth century, as evidenced by the types of decorations or the form of the pillow.

For over two thousand years, the Tuareg have conducted the Trans-Saharan caravan trade, linking the great cities of the southern tip of the Sahara through five desert trade routes to the north coast of Africa.

Leather containers were of great importance for the Tuareg, who were forced to transport their belongings all the time. Clothes and valuables were kept in special sacks, more or less decorated.
