GERMAN COLONIAL PROPERTIES IN CONSCIOUSNESS OF READERS OF THE PRESS ILLUSTRATED ON THE UPPER SILESIA AT THE TURN OF XIX CENTURY, BASED ON MAGAZINE “ILLUSTRIERTE SONTAGSBLATT”.

 

ABOUT AUTHOR:

Tomasz Górecki, political science master degree, the Municipal Museum in Żory’s employee. Co-author of publication “Książęta Górnego Śląska. Wybór postaci”, “Insygnia miasta Żory”, co-editor of “Leksykon Żorski”, author of lots of articles concerning town’s and region’s history.

 

PURPOSE OF REASEARCH:

Programme assumes demonstration of potential knowledge of an average inhabitant of Upper Silesia about german colony. This knowledge was available due to publications added to lots of local press. According to wide reach of those papers in particular cities and big habit of reading, it can be supposed that this consciousness among the readers will be huge, only dependent from frequency of release of informations concerning oversea properties of Kaiserdom.

 

EXPLORATORY RANGE :

 

Project assumes analysis of vintages “ILLUSTRIERTE SONTAGSBLATT” from the beginning of ‘90s, XIX cent. to 1918.

There was a query in 1908 – 1918, which was in possession of the Municipal Museum in Żory; query concerning remaining vintages available in digital libraries (polish and german libraries) is in progress.
