The history of Haering's villa
Villa was built in the beginning of 20th century, a couple of years before WWI. The date placed on one of the walls – 1908 – suggests that it was ready to use in this year, but it also may be date of the beginning of building.
At that time, it was one of the most grand buildings in town, built in eclectic style. Its first owner was Ferdinand Haering (he was a vet) who was a deputy mayor of Żory for years. Besides Haering and his family, Panofski family also lived there (owners of smeltery „Paweł” at that time).
During the interbellum, this building had a couple of owners. Firstly the „Bracka Kasa Chorych” organized a pension for its charges, in the end of ‘30s villa again was used as a residential building.
During occupation, this building was captured by town’s German administration. Here lived Anton Jaschke, town’s mayor during occupation.
After WWII, this villa was one of few buildings in the town centre left undamaged due to WWI in 1945. This is why people necessary for town’s existing were quartered there. In the following years, after possesion’s formal capture by Public Treasury, villa was a communal building, where families lived due to municipal office’s decision.
In 2008, Żory Borough offered to KSSE a purchase of this building. Analysis of property’s state shown that thorough investment is necessary, including deepening basements, change of all ceilings and roof. As an effect of KSSE’s structural contest concerning conception of modernisation and building’s extention, a dozen or so of offers arrived – including winners – AiR Jurkowscy’s proposition, which in a great way connects the historic part with the modern one. Due to it, along with works held in historical object, KSSE S.A. offered Żory’s Borough and the Municipal Museum a capitalization and investment concerning new part of the building, basing on structural concrete, and for totally new museum’s exhibitions.
After whole renovations and extending of the object, since 2014 its a Municipal Museum’s facility.
